What is the Motor Insurers' Bureau?

21.01.2010

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau was set up in 1946.  It’s an organisation which handles accident claims when someone has been injured or has sustained damage to property because of an uninsured driver or a driver who is untraceable.

Insurance companies who deal with road accident claims have to be member of the MIB and make contributions towards its funding.

The role of the MIB is to pay out compensation when the negligent driver is found to be responsible but is uninsured or cannot be traced.

According to the MIB, 1 in 10 18-34 year old drivers don't know that car insurance is a legal requirement and approximately 900,000 drivers below the age of 30 are currently driving without valid insurance.
