A recall of popular baby slings was issued last week by the manufacturers Infantino. This followed concerns in the US over the deaths of infants from similar styled products.

Over 10,000 sling rider and Wendy Bellissimo slings have been sold in the UK through outlets such as Halfords on the high street and on the internet. This fashionable product has become increasingly popular recently as a natural bonding experience allowing the baby to feel the mother's heartbeat.
The sling fabric however, has been criticised for not allowing the baby to breath properly. Baby's have poor neck muscles thus not allowing them to free themselves. The sling also controversially holds the baby in a curved position pushing the head forward restricting the airway.
Increasing Accident Claims
The Trading Standards officials in the UK are following up a safety alert issued from the US, as a result of increasing accident claims. Infantino President, Jack Vresics commented on the recall saying our top priority is the safety of the infant.
