Company Fined after Hand Injury

A company in Liverpool which handles plastics-recycling has been fined £2,500 after an accident in which an employee sustained severed fingers. It is likely that the former employee will now make a civil compensation claim. Accident claims connected with accidents which occur in the workplace where machinery is involved are fairly common.

In this case the man was trying to cleara jam in a guillotine when the accident occurred. Doctors were able to reattach two of his fingers but he has limited movement in these two fingers. He has been unable to return to work.

The company was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive and was later fined and ordered to pay costs
