Compensation for Cyclist's Family

The family of a teacher, who was knocked off his bike and killed, in October 2004, have won their fight for compensation.

David Kerslake, 44, Head of Science at Sharples School in Bolton, was cycling to work when he was hit by a car. The driver lost control after suffering a hypoglycaemic attack.

The trade union, Unison, acted of behalf of Mr Kersales wife and daughter. The driver's insurer accepted responsibility and paid out £580,000 in response to the family's accident claim.

Jacqueline Kerslake, a nurse at North General Hospital said when we won it was a relief, it gave some recognition for his life.
