Recently released figures show that twelve accident claims have been made by motorists over the winter period, following falling ice causing damage to their cars.
The motorists were travelling over the Severn Bridges when the incidents occurred. As a result the Bridges were temporarily closed until they could be made safe.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency said that they were now working closely with the Met Office to ensure that these incidents do not reoccur, he went on to add that it makes sense to use them as they are experts.
The Highway Agency is also considering investing in Japanese technology which monitors ice build up and can act as an early warning system.
