A schoolboy from Lincoln is to receive an accident claim payout after he sustained a head injury which left him brain damaged.

The boy banged heads with another pupil during a football match at school in 2004. Afterwards he complained of a headache.

His Mother made several calls including one to NHS Direct and to the out-of-hours service run by West Lincolnshire Primary Trust. She was told to give her son painkillers and let him rest.

During the night the boy began to vomit and his Mother was again advised to let him rest.

Later that nighthe began to fit and was rushed to Lincoln County Hospital. He underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot and was in hospital for over six weeks.

The level of compensation has not yet been agreed and will depend on the predicted cost of his long term care and potential loss of wages.
