Hit and Run Drivers and MIB

Brake the road safety charity described recent hit and run incident statistics as “shocking”.  High and run deaths have continued to rise of the last ten years.  It is thought that many hit and run incidents are caused by uninsured drivers or drivers who are under the influence of alcohol.

There are an estimated 1 million uninsured drivers on the UKs roads and it has been found that one in ten car accidents involve drivers who are not insured.  If you have been involved in an accident which involved a hit and run driver it may still be possible to make a claim for compensation.  This type of compensation claim can be made against the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) under the Uninsured Drivers’ Agreement.

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau are an organization which was set up to fund compensation for those people who were injured as a result of an accident with an unknown or uninsured driver.

If you have been involved in an accident where you were the passenger in a car being driven by an uninsured driver, it is unlikely that a compensation claim would be successful.  It is difficult to prove that you were unaware that the driver was not insured.

These claims can be more complicated and it is therefore essential to seek the advice of an experienced personal injury lawyer.
