  • I was a passenger in a car involved in a road traffic accident and suffered serious injuries to my right shoulder, my elbow and scarring to my forehead. I was unable to work for a long time. First Personal Injury dealt with my case from the outset. I never expected that I would receive £21,191.00 of compensation for my injuries and other losses I had as a result of the accident. I am delighted with the outcome of my claim and would definitely recommend First Personal Injury to anyone who wants to make an accident claim.

Ice Skating Injuries

The most common time of year to be injured whilst ice skating is in the winter. At this time of year, many temporary ice rinks pop up in cities across the UK. However, there are many all-year-round ice rinks too. Ice skating by its nature comes with risks of bumps and falls that are likely to happen whilst learning to skate. Unfortunately, sometimes more severe injuries can be sustained, such as concussion, broken bones, dislocated shoulders, lacerations and back injuries.

Having an accident whilst ice skating doesn’t mean a claim will be successful. We will need to prove that a third party has been negligent in taking the necessary precautions to provide a safe environment. If this is the case, there may be a case for an ice skating injury claim. Some examples of negligence at an ice rink include:

  • Careless and dangerous behaviour from other skaters
  • Inadequate maintenance of the ice rink
  • Not providing suitable skates and other equipment
  • Poor management and supervision during busy times

How Much Compensation?

All personal injury cases are unique and so the amount of compensation that is awarded in each case is also unique. Compensation falls into two distinct factors: general damages and special damages.

General Damages

The pain and suffering that your injuries have caused are the main factors that are used to determine how much general damage compensation you are owed. This will usually be determined by undergoing a medical examination, from which a report is created that highlights the length of time the injuries will take to heal as well as their severity. Our compensation calculator will give you an indication of how much general damage compensation you might be entitled to based upon your injuries.

Special Damages

In addition to receiving compensation for your injuries, you may be able to reclaim any financial losses that you might have suffered as a result of your injuries. Compensation for financial losses is known as special damages compensation. This can include losses such as loss of earnings due to not being able to return to work, the cost of treatment as well as travel to treatment. It is important that you keep any receipts or evidence of additional losses in order for these to be reclaimed.

With the exception of children, there is a three-year time limit on making a personal injury claim. This time limit begins from the date that the accident initially occurred. Therefore, you should contact us as soon as possible to assess your case.
