Hit and run accidents
You could be hit by a driver who stops but, in some circumstances, ‘hit and run’ cases do occur. In these situations, you may still be able to claim, even if the driver is uninsured. There is an organisation set up by the government called the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) to compensate victims for personal injury and damage to property in road traffic accidents (RTAs) where the driver is either uninsured or untraceable.
If it is a child under 18 that is injured, a parent or guardian can make a claim on their behalf. As with most personal injury cases you have a time limit of three years to make a claim, however, a child has until they are 21 to make a claim no matter what age they were injured.
